  • What is permanent makeup?
Permanent Makeup, or 'PMU' is a totally safe form of aesthetic/cosmetic enhancement - sometimes referred to as micropigmentation - in which pharmaceutical grade pigments are implanted into the upper layers of the skin with a super fine needle(s) to mimic the makeup you wear (powder) or the natural hair strokes. It can also add, or bring back colour to lips and be used to give the illusion of a thicker lash line, or to mimic eyeliner.

  • What's the difference between Microblading/Hairstrokes and Permanent MakeUp?
Microblading creates ultra fine 'lines' in the skin, using a hand tool with a number of tiny pins on the end. These pins are gently run over the skin creating a channel where pigment is then rubbed into. Alternatively we can use the digital method to create hair strokes just as crisp - or pixelated - with much less trauma! The machine method utilises the same, gentle machine we use to do our Ombre brow, with a small needle cartridge, which gently sews the pigment into the skin via controlled repetitions. Both treatments are not suitable for many clients due the fact that the stokes are likely to blur depending on your skin type. If you're unsure of your suitability please send us some up-close and very detailed images of your brow area so we can see your skin type and hair growth pattern. Permanent Makeup (all methods are considered 'Permanent'), is sometimes known as 'The Digital' or 'Machine' Method, and works very similarly to conventional body tattooing - with a few exceptions! We generally use much smaller needles, in single configurations, and use pigment which is less concentrated and more susceptible to fading over time! The machines that we use are top of the range and implant the pigment very softly via repetitions (the needle moving up and down) a number of times a second. This deposits tiny dots of pigment in the skin that we can then layer and build exactly how we choose to create a completely bespoke brow, with gradients of density and softness, vs definition and depth, in the exact way to best compliment you - our client! The machine method of implanting pigment is much more gentle on the skin as it doesn't 'cut' the skin.
  • Ombre Vs Hair strokes?
Ombre refers to a style of brow which is created purely with shading techniques and does not include hair strokes. In our opinion, this style heals much softer than hair stroke brows as there doesn't have to be any edges or lines in and the fronts can simply fade to nothing...whereas hair strokes are either on or off, and cannot "fade to nothing". Ombre will always age nicer over time as hair strokes can develop gaps which need filling sooner. Ombre is not only our personal favourite, but much more suitable for the majority of skin types and lifestyles! PLEASE NOTE: Oily, porous, or mature skin can affect the results of microblading - it can heal more blurry or reject the pigment completely and cause damage to the skin, it can also fade faster. Because of this, we often advise against this option if you have this type of skin, and will recommend you opt for our Ombre brows as this method is suitable for all skin types. In addition, if you have a lot of natural hair, or are concerned about 'gaps', then Ombre would be the better option for you.
  • Do I Have To Shave Off My Eyebrows?
No! Microblading enhances what you already have to make the eyebrows look as natural as possible. The more hairs we can incorporate into the design of your new eyebrows, the better. Microblading is an excellent solution for over-plucked eyebrows, or for those who have very sparse and thin eyebrow hairs. Microblading can also be a unique solution for people with alopecia or scar covering. It is not necessary, nor recommended for a client to get rid of any of the natural hair you already have.
  • Does Microblading /Powder Brows Hurt?
Before the start of the treatment, We use a topical anesthetic; therefore, the level of pain experienced is very minimal. However, everyone’s skin and pain threshold are different, and everyone will have varying experiences. Some feel nothing at all. We regularly hear the expression “That’s it!?” by our clients when we begin Microblading due to how little discomfort they feel. Many of our clients have even fallen asleep!
  • How Long Does Microblading Last Vs Powder Brows?
Pigments during microblading are not implanted as deep into the skin as a traditional tattoo. For this reason, it’s easy to change up your brows as the trends change or as you age. A colour boost is required usually between 18-24 months. A touch-up maybe needed at 12 months or sooner for oily-skinned clients. If you often tan or expose your brow area to certain chemicals (facial peels, chlorine, anti-ageing products). Pigment retention varies depending on skin type, age, aftercare, immune system, medications, certain chemicals, and the type of pigment used. Powder Brows lasts up-to 2-3 years. Its a great choice for oily skin clients.
  • How Long Is The Microblading Healing Process?
The eyebrow area will be slightly red after the procedure, and the colour will appear very dark. This is normal for the procedure and part of the healing process. The colour will fade by up to 30-50% as it heals and slightly shrinks in size. In the following days, the eyebrows will continue to be dark, and you will notice slight scabbing. Do not pick at the scabs as this may damage the skin and the outcome of the pigment. The eyebrows will lighten up in colour as it heals. It takes approximately 7-14 days for the brows to heal over, and about one month for the colour to fully set in. You’ll notice the colour is very light right after two weeks; the skin will have an opaque milky looking quality to it. Often known as “milk skin” and is part of the healing process for permanent eyebrows. This happens as tissue is still healing from the inside, even though the surface of the skin has healed. The actual colour will reveal itself once healed.
  • How Many Sessions Do I Need To Achieve Desired Results?
A 4-6 week touch-up is required after the initial session. This is because normally clients retain 60-80% of their pigment after the first session. Not all clients will need a touch-up, but in the event that you do, book a touch-up with me and I will fill any areas that did not retain pigment.
  • Will my eyebrows flake after the procedure?
Flaking of skin on the microbladed area is a *natural* part of the healing process. However, with the aid of PHI CANDY provided to you after your appointment and the Wet Healing process I use, clients experience almost zero flaking or scabbing. Rest assured that you can go right back to normal life and have no awkward weeks of healing.
  • Can I wear makeup while my semi-permanent eyebrows are healing?
The answer is YES, but with caution! As long as you avoid applying makeup near the brows. Always wash your hands and use clean makeup brushes. This ensures you are not introducing bacteria or other pathogens into the eyebrows while they are still healing. I include a gentle Foaming cleanser and brush in your after care kit, which removes makeup and oil easily.
  • Do you do corrective work? Do you take clients with previous Microblading / Powder Brows?
Yes! However, I must see the current condition of your pigment and shape of your eyebrows before confirming if I am comfortable with correcting your brows. Please send us an email with clear images with lighting or give us a call for more information.
  • Can I workout after getting my eyebrows Microbladed?
No! It would be best if you avoided any activities that will induce sweating while your brows are healing. As your eyebrows are considered an open wound post-procedure, it is important not to introduce any new bacteria since this can pose a risk of infection. Instead, relax while your brows heal. However, if you absolutely have to go to the gym after your appointment, I recommend using Phi Skin Candy – Sun & Sweat Protection barrier cream.
  • What are the different styles for permanent lip blush?
These are the 6 styles of lip blushing techniques out there and we offer all of them to you. Everyone is different and has their own style. This way you have all choices and you can choose your style instead of offering you just one choice for all.

  • What Is Hair Micropigmentation and How Does It Work?
Though scalp micropigmentation resembles a tattoo, it is starkly different than a traditional tattoo. Microblading for eyebrows is a better comparison, because it involves tattooing tiny “hairs” to fill out the brow. Scalp micropigmentation also seeks to create the illusion of thicker hair, but it involves a much different method of implanting pigment. Instead of creating hairlike lines as you would when microblading eyebrows, the technician uses tiny, layered dots in different hues to create natural-looking depth and definition. This style of tattooing is referred to as “pointillism.” To begin the process, we’ll create your custom pigment before getting it ready to put in our hand tool. At MTHETICS, we are able to custom-match pigments for your hairline tattoo to ensure it matches the rest of your hair perfectly. The hand tool has a sterile needle attached to the end where the pigment comes out. The needle is inserted into the epidermal layer of your scalp, where the pigment will take effect. Scalp micropigmentation is minimally invasive and completely safe when you go to a licensed medical professional. Micropigmentation takes significant time and skill, and by choosing the right team, you can expect the best results. Contact us via phone or email to get started!
